Dear Customers,

following the Newsletter No. 03/2024 of 19 January 2024, we would like to inform you about the further development concerning prices and the policy of the German Federal Government regarding the financing of using the rail transport infrastructure in Germany.

Unfortunately, we have to confirm what was originally announced, that due to the necessary economic measures planned and declared by the government, the Federal Government decided to significantly reduce the funds for financing railway routes. Considering, that this financial support was taken into account when calculating the 2024 price, we will be forced to introduce a surcharge.

As a railway carrier, we are facing additional costs already from December 2023, that we as METRANS company, are no longer able to absorb. This unfortunate policy of the Federal Government continues to increase the cost of operating rail transport, which unfortunately, receives less and less support in Europe. In addition to the restrictions caused by construction and other works, strikes and the overall deterioration of the situation in supply chains, this decision will have an additional negative effect on the costs of transport within all of Europe.

The surcharge for using the railway infrastructure will be applied from 15 February 2024. Regarding its amount we will inform you as soon as the Federal Government has made a binding decision.
