Sea Port Bremerhaven

Operational Situation in Northern Europe – Update No. 30

Dear Customers,

Unfortunately, the operational situation remains mostly unchanged. Complicated transit through German infrastructure is slowing down all services, including Rotterdam and Duisburg. The ongoing nighttime closure in the Elbe Valley between Kurort Rathen and Pirna from 11/03 to 14/03/2026, is causing further significant delays. The circulation of trains and locomotives is severely disrupted, and we are forced to cancel some connections.

For northern German ports, it is still generally the case that import connections are booked out weeks in advance, and the volume of imports accumulated in ports is enormous.

DB InfraGO has announced that the major closure between Hamburg and Berlin will be extended due to the exceptionally harsh and prolonged winter in the region. The original end date was 30/04/2026. It is now expected that transport will fully resume on the closed section a month and a half later, on 14/06/2026.

Hamburg: HPA resumed entry by permit on Tuesday evening, 10 March.

Bremerhaven:
Entry by permit is currently inactive. We are trying to mobilise the trains accumulated in both import and export directions, depending on the possibilities offered by the individual infrastructures.

Gdańsk: Trains are currently running with a delay of approximately 25 hours due to a long-term closure between METRANS Ostrava and Česká Třebová terminals, which we reported in Newsletter No. 039/2026. The BalticHub terminal is operating at a limited capacity of up to 30% of planned slots. Imports are fully booked until 28/03/2026, and it is not possible to request an extra train at this time.
