Sea Port Bremerhaven

Operational Situation in Northern Europe – Update No. 33

Dear Customers,

rail transit through Germany remains highly complicated. The entire infrastructure is significantly overloaded, and DB InfraGO is ordering trains to be held at various locations. On Monday, 23 March 2026, a daytime track closure took place in the Elbe Valley, which restricted transit through Germany to/from the Czech Republic, i.e. also services to/from Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and the Balkans. The circulation of train sets and locomotives has no chance of returning to normal fluidity. Due to closures and entry restrictions, significant delays are occurring, and we are forced to cancel some trains.

Hamburg: On 22 March 2026 at 06:00, HPA has resumed permit-based train entry.

Bremerhaven: Bremenports continues to control train entry. The situation regarding rolling stock circulation is extremely tense, and delays in both directions are reaching several days.

Rotterdam / Duisburg: Delays are reaching up to 12 hours.

Gdańsk: Trains are currently running with delays of approximately 10 hours. The backlog persists mainly due to the closure between Česká Třebová and Havířov. The BalticHub terminal is operating this week with slot capacity reduced by 20%. Import capacity is fully booked until and including 14 April 2026, and it is currently not possible to request an extra train.
