Closures Between Ferencváros and Kelenföld Stations in Hungary in 2026 and 2027

Dear Customers,

Based on the information received from the Hungarian Railway Infrastructure Manager (MÁV), we would like to inform you about significant track closures expected in 2026 and subsequently also in 2027 between the Ferencváros and Kelenföld stations, including the most important railway bridge over the Danube in Hungary, the Southern Connecting Railway Bridge:

  • On working days on 12 and 13 January 2026 and from 2 February to 4 April 2026, there will be a complete closure between 09:00 and 16:00, during which railway traffic will be fully suspended.
  • In the period from 20 to 28 January 2026 and during the nights of 29 – 30 January 2026, a complete closure will take place every night.
  • From 7 April 2026, for a period of 20 months, all railway traffic will be diverted to the new right-hand track. During this period, train operations will be maintained on a single track with alternating directions of travel.
  • On 19 – 21 May, 26 – 28 May, 24 – 25 June, 27 July, and 31 August 2026, the new right-hand track will also be closed for 4 – 6 hours, during which railway traffic will be completely suspended.
  • During the nights of 1 – 4 September, 3 – 8 November, and 10 – 11 November 2026, the new right-hand track will also be closed and railway traffic will be fully suspended.

During the closure periods, METRANS train operations will be organised so as to minimise delays as much as possible, by making use of alternative routes depending on the current stage of the closures.

Despite the measures taken, certain delays may occur. However, we will make every effort to ensure the timely transport of trains, with alternative routes being used in line with current operational possibilities.

If you have any questions regarding the current planning of your shipments and transit times through Hungary, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Department.
