Rail: The game-changer in green transport
🚆 Rail transport remains one of the most climate-friendly ways to move goods across Europe, yet it still needs greater attention and support. Just one METRANS train replaces over 50 trucks, significantly reducing emissions and road congestion. As cities grow and supply chains evolve, rail deserves more attention than ever before.
But we don’t just move containers. With an extensive terminal network, energy-efficient electric trains, and innovative lightweight flat wagons, we’re maximizing capacity while reducing our environmental impact. Our customers don’t have to choose between efficiency and sustainability – they get both.
Expanding our climate-friendly network
2024 was a milestone year for our green logistics efforts:
âś… More sustainable transport along the Silk Road: All shipments between Malaszewicze and METRANS hinterland terminals now operate under HHLA Pure, ensuring operation with reduced emissions.
✅ 100% green rail energy in the Netherlands: We’ve switched to fully renewable energy for rail transport.
âś… Solar power innovation: Our new photovoltaic system in northern Germany, in partnership with Enerparc, strengthens our ability to generate clean and self-sufficient energy production.
HHLA Pure
If you haven’t heard of HHLA Pure, it’s our initiative to offer lower-emission transport from port to hinterland. Developed with HHLA, it’s an essential part of our long-term strategy to reduce our carbon footprint.
