Dear Customers,
We are following up on our Monday newsletter, in which we informed you about the unfortunate situation in the weather-affected railway transport. Unfortunately, today we have to expand our report on weather conditions.
Northern corridor
- The situation in Hamburg remains poor. The HPA is only accepting trains upon approval and in minimal numbers. Due to adverse weather conditions, handling at all port terminals is very slow, which prevents us from meeting our daily schedules and the number of undelivered trains is increasing every day. Further unfavourable weather is expected in Hamburg, and from Friday to Sunday there will also be a total closure in the Elbe Valley. For these reasons, we are forced to significantly reduce further loadings in the direction from/to Hamburg.
- The Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven services are currently operating without any major problems.
- Benelux is also struggling with the effects of severe weather in the form of freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Terminals in Rotterdam and Antwerp are suspending operations several times a day. The entire rail network in the Netherlands is facing significant complications. Infrastructure manager ProRail is continuously issuing restrictions, and RSC terminal is currently inaccessible by rail. DIT Duisburg terminal is also experiencing problems due to bad weather. There may be significant delays to trains and individual shipments.
Southern corridor
Due to snowfall last night, there are significant problems with rail transport in Slovenia, Hungary, and the border areas between Croatia and Hungary and Serbia and Hungary. For this reason, delays are to be expected.
The entire operational situation also has a negative impact on the smooth running of domestic terminals.
We apologise for these complications, which are beyond METRANS’ control. Our Customer Service team will answer any questions you may have regarding specific shipments.
