Ongoing Problems with Delivering and Accepting Containers in Hamburg

01.03.2022

Dear Customers,

Following last week’s information regarding the delivery to / taking containers from the CTA terminal in Hamburg, we would like to provide you an update on the situation.

Unfortunately, the situation from last week at the CTA terminal is still very complicated and the terminal informed us today that they extended the condition of accepting an export container only in exchange for dispatching an import container at least until March 9th 2022. However, as the arrival of import containers by sea is still delayed and at the same time, import volumes are currently lower, more and more export shipments will accumulate at inland terminals and problems with delivery of export containers to the port will persist.

When storing containers in inland, there is necessary to count with storage charges, which will be charged as after agreed declared conditions. In case that we are charged with additional costs due to the stopped dispatching – occurring first of all at the terminals from which METRANS trains depart to seaports, but which are not own METRANS terminals – we will re-invoice these further in full amount.

In connection with the overloading of the CTA / KTH Hamburg terminal, we also received information about the suspension of accepting containers to the Eurokombi terminal in Hamburg. Unfortunately then, the containers intended for additional truck shunt within Hamburg, resp. containers destined to terminal Eurokombi directly cannot be sent to and dispatched via this terminal until the situation improves, and they will also be stopped at inland terminals. Our colleagues from customer service departments will try to offer you an alternative solution in the form of additional shunt within Hamburg via other terminals in Hamburg. Your partner at our customer service will inform you also about potential price for such service. The operation of trains to the EUROGATE sea terminal runs normally without restrictions.

Unfortunately, in connection with the above, there also are delays in processing of trains in ports and the subsequent delay on the route can, despite our best efforts and exceptionally reorganized shifts, also lead to delays in the delivery of import shipments.

We stay available for your further questions.
